Favorite Restaurant, 橘色/Orange Shabu Shabu

One of my all time favorite restaurants ever is Orange Shabu Shabu/ 橘色 in Taipei. The restaurant serves shabu shabu and also has the freshest sashimi and mouth watering grilled oysters. The sets are around NT 1100 and include a meat (sirloin, wagyu, pork, etc), an appetizer (salad with japanese dressing or slices of tomato in a sesame dressing), vegetables, a choice of congee cooked in the soup base after you are done with the meats, or noodles in a peanut sauce, a plate of sliced fruits, and finally dessert (cold almond tofu that has a mochi texture, pudding, or 湯圓/ doughy balls with black sesame in the middle in a rice wine soup).

Writing about this makes me want to go to Taiwan right now.

The meats are extremely tender and tasty. Even without the dipping sauces (one of peanut, one of soy sauce and green onions), everything tastes delicious.
The service at the restaurant is unbelievable. The servers continually come around to help remove oil from the hot pot and to help you remove the shell off shrimps, and to check if your sauces need to be refilled. Amazing.
Enough talk. Here are the pictures.

Salad dressing: perfection. Love the peanuts in the salad, too!

Sirloin, my usual choice:

Veggies can me delicious, too! (Well, when the meat is all gone, anyway).

Cooking the congee. The yellow bits are from the egg that is beaten and added to the soup.

The congee with seaweed on top!

Almond tofu dessert that has a chewy texture. A few ice cubes are floating around in here too.

Check out more info on their website:

No. 135, Da An Road, Sec 1, B1
Telephone: (02) 2776-1658

Other location:
29, RenAi Rd, Sec 4, 2 FL
(02) 2771-0181
(The two restaurants are within walking distance).

Make sure to reserve beforehand! It tends to get full even on weeknights. There are bar seats at the Da an location, which I personally prefer because then each person gets their own pot. In addition, you get even better service because the servers are always right behind the bar.
