My sister and I spent a really nice afternoon together last week. After I whined about being tired and hungry, she took me to Alice's Tea Cup, the most adorable restaurant/cafe for afternoon tea. The restaurant has an Alice in Wonderland theme, and has pictures and decorations all over the place that make you feel like you are in a gigantic doll house.
Greeted with shelves of mugs and tea pots when you walk in.
Pages and pages of tea selections...
Alice's Tea Cup set that includes 1 pot of tea and 2 scones for $10 (shared between two people).
There are different scones to select from every day. We chose a Strawberry Daiquiri scone and Butter scone. The Strawberry Daiquiri scone reminded me of a Pop tart but less sweet-- delicious! The jam and cream tasted great with the Butter scone.
My sister and I both like to end our eating with salty foods, so we also shared a croque monsieur, which includes either a side of french fries or mixed greens. The menu description for this sandwich is: black forest ham and gruyere with mayonnaise and whole grain mustard on semolina with golden raisins and fennel. The strong taste and hint of sweetness in the bread gave me a new appreciation for sandwich bread. The french fries were nice and crispy.
Note that there is a $10 minimum order per person on weekends and the wait can be long (over half an hour on weekend afternoons), although the wait is nowhere near as bad as the wait at Serendipity, which is four blocks away at 225 East 60th Street.
