DC: Mexican Dinner at Haydee's

It's been so long since I've had Mexican food. I've been on a half-hearted search for it in NYC and find that authentic Mexican food is greatly lacking from this metropolitan city! Haydee's probably comes closest to bringing me the joy I experienced when eating in Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. Although it was blazing hot and none of us were actually hungry, upon my friend's recommendation we ventured over to Columbia Heights to check out this restaurant.

The Latin American restaurant is comprised of two floors and has a stage on the ground floor along with several flat screen TVs playing sports channels. It's quite casual, but definitely looks like a lively night spot.

Cheese Pupusa, $2.25. Pupusa is a traditional Salvadorian dish made of thick flat bread usually stuffed with cheese and/or meat.

Chicken Enchiladas, $7.50. I couldn't believe this enormous dish was only $7.50. The chicken was so tender!

Nachos with chicken, cheese and jalapenos, $6.50.

Tilapia Fish Tacos, $11.99. The fish was seasoned so well and along with the grilled onions this was heavenly.

The side that came with the fish tacos. I think every dish here could easily be split into two meals.
