This prix fixe lunch was definitely the best meal I've had in a while. Everything tasted superb, and the setting is simple but elegant. My only minor complaint would be that the there was quite a long lag between each course, making our whole meal take around 2 and a half hours. Still, it was absolutely delicious and I am so ready to go back.
Prix fixe lunch is $32 for 3 courses.
Amuse Bouche of baked potato soup with black truffle. A very nice ratio of truffle to soup!
Our first courses:
Ginger Rice Bowl with crispy poached egg, pickled chilis, avocado, and scallions. A great fusion dish with a strong kick to it from the chili and scallions.
Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with mimolette cheese and croutons. Creamy and rich, exactly how butternut squash soup should be.
King Oyster Mushroom and Avocado Carpaccio. I had a hard time deciding between this appetizer and the arctic char sashimi, but the server was very helpful and said that although the arctic char sashimi is delicious as well, the oyster mushroom is very interesting. The combination of mushroom and avocado seems a little strange, but the two went surprisingly well together. There was some jalapeno oil and lime drizzled on top, and this light topping was a nice way to highlight the natural mushroom and avocado flavors.
Crispy Fried Chicken with scotch bonnet sauce, wild rice, collard greens and pecans. This does not look like typical fried chicken, and definitely did not taste like the regular kind. So out of this world. Each piece was succulent and far surpassed my expectations. The sauce packed quite a lot of heat, but thankfully the rice and greens helped soothe my tastebuds.
Slow Cooked Atlantic Salmon with sweet potatoes and spiced chili broth. The most tender and perfectly cooked salmon I've ever tasted.
Caramelized Banana Cake. I loved the thin layer of crispiness on top of the banana slices. The cake itself was very moist and flavorful.
And I somehow accidentally deleted the photo of the molten chocolate cake, but I must still talk about it. Jean-Georges is credited with creating this dessert, and it truly is spectacular. The cake was light and fluffy, and the warm chocolate liquid tasted wonderful.
