NYC Restaurant Week 2012: Rosa Mexicano

NYC Restaurant week! After skimming through quite a few menus on the website, I decided Mexican food at Rosa Mexicano sounded the most appealing for a mid-week lunch.
The meal started off well, with our friendly server making plenty of helpful suggestions. Unfortunately between the entrees and the desserts, we waited over 20 minutes. Our server was nice enough to come by our table to let us know the desserts were on the way, but 20 minutes is still a very long time for a weekday lunch!

3 courses during restaurant week lunch: $24.07.

Colorful and warm wall decor with both table and booth seating.

A wall covered in cool diver figures.

Of course we started with the guacamole appetizer.

It was fun to watch them prepare the guacamole at the table. You get to choose how spicy you want the guacamole to be. We got mild, and it was perfect.

Delicious and served with a side of warm tortilla chips.

Flautas de Pollo/Rolled Crispy Chicken Tacos topped with salsa pasilla de de Oaxaca, salsa verde, queso fresco and crema. So very crispy and flavorful. The chicken was very tender and the salsas complemented the meat very nicely.

Flan de Rosa/Espresso Flan: vanilla flan infused with espresso served on a warm, thin ancho chile brownie, topped with cinnamon whipped cream. This was creamy with just the right consistency. The espresso flavor was nice and strong.

All three courses were wonderful. I expected to like the guacamole the best, since everyone always raves about the guacamole at Rosa Mexicano, but no course managed to overshadow another.
